RE-CAST OF W. G. GRACE BUST
The re-casting of the bust of W.G Grace, one of the Club’s most famous founders and one of the world’s greatest cricketers has been receiving generous donations from supporters and members of Gloucestershire Cricket. There is still an opportunity for you to donate.
Former Club President, Mrs Marie Journeaux, in consultation with the GCCC Heritage Trust, has gained permission from the MCC Arts and Library Committee for a re-cast of the bust of W. G. Grace. The original, which stands in the Museum at Lord’s Cricket Ground, will be re-cast in bronze, metal finished and patinated as a ‘classic’ bronze using traditional heat treatment methods.
The bust itself will measure 690mm (H), 640mm (W) and 435mm (D) and will take approximately 10 months to complete. The company chosen to undertake this work is Pangolin Editions Ltd of Stroud, Gloucestershire.
It is envisaged that the bust will be positioned on a plinth to be sited in the proximity of the Bristol Pavilion at the Club’s headquarters in Bristol. The plan is to unveil the bronze during the first home County Championship Match in 2020; coinciding with the Club’s 150th anniversary season.
