U16s Boys County Age Group - 2023 Season Review & Award Winners

2023 was a season punctuated with showcases of quality performances as well as the frustrations of getting off to a good start and losing focus. It was pleasing to see many Under 15s playing at this age group, whilst others represented the U18 and the Second XI.
Henry Driver Dickerson made an instant impact against Berkshire, scoring 58 whilst the team had to chase 137 to win after a great performance in the field. Tristan Maree, Tiger Sherrad Isles and Archie Baker all making an impact. It was not to be and we fell short by 18 runs.
Another 'oh so close' game was that against Devon, where Gloucestershire were in charge of the game all day, but just failed to capitalise with the bat, after the bowlers had done the damage with the ball. Jack Benkenstein claimed 4 wickets.
An so the season progressed, searching for our first win. Knowing it was imminent, the boys kept pushing forward. And it came on a damp day at Tewkesbury against Devon, when the batsmen, led by Driver Dickerson, Brookes, Shafi and Newton posted 300, to bowl Dorset out to win by 120. A welcome return for Henry Trotman who sought out 3 victims.
Spin played a major part of the 148 win over Wiltshire where Bobby Britto leaked runs at 0.6 runs per over when he claimed the his 5ver, with figure of 9 - 5 - 6 - 5. Tutty and Sherred Isles also chipped in with a couple a piece.
The best all round performance was against Wales who were looking to top the table. Zain Syed and Logan Bowden set the tone putting on 159 for the first wicket, allowing others to capitalise. Zain scored 103 and Logan 70 as Gloucestershire climbed to 297 - a winning score. What was especially delightful was watching the Welsh wickets tumble, Jamie Brookes, Trotman and Jack Freebury picking up 3 each.
Performance of the Season
For a remarkable century against a tough bowling attack against the Welsh. The U16s Performance of the Year goes to Zain Syed.
Player of the Season
Averaging nearly 40 for the season and being consistent throughout the season putting in stellar performances throughout the U16s ECB Competition. Making great strides within the age group, our U16s Player of the Season goes to Archie Newton
