Sunday 20th June - Fixtures Round Up

21 June 2021

The rain unfortunately played its part yesterday with two out of the six fixtures scheduled abandoned. Our U12s County Age Group side were due to play Somerset in Taunton and our U13s Development side were facing Staffordshire at Bristol Grammar School. We are hopeful these fixtures will be rearranged, and our coaches will keep parents updated.

For now, here is a summary of what happened in the fixtures that were played.

Devon vs U18s CAG @ Mount Kelly School

Oliver Meadows proved to be the difference once again in a close encounter with Devon in the next round of the Royal London Cup competition. Gloucestershire chasing 172 for victory, managed to cross the line thanks to Meadows 84* off 108 balls and 8 boundaries continuing his form for the U18s side.

Earlier in the day, our bowlers were particularly impressive with the ball being able to pick up wickets at regular intervals to dismiss Devon for 171 all out inside their allotted 50 overs. All of our bowlers making contributions and restricting Devon’s scoring options, in particular Praneel Choughule (1 for 21), Taylor Ireland (2 for 36) and Kameel Shahabdeen (2 for 33). Special mention to Luke Charlesworth as well who set the tone up front, bowling 7 overs for 20 runs and was unfortunate to go wicketless.

A great confidence booster for the team who took the win by 3 wickets and now have 3 wins out of 4 in the competition. Their next fixture is against Wales at Hawkesbury CC on the 27th June.

Cheltenham College vs U15s Development @ Cheltenham College

A rearranged fixture for our U15s Development side with a trip to Cheltenham College to play their U15s side. A terrific bowling performance by Yusuf Khan ensured victory for Gloucestershire by dismissing Cheltenham College for 98. Khan bowled 6 overs, taking 3 wickets for 11 runs and was crucial in making early breakthroughs to defend our sub-par total of 131 earlier in the day. Lewis Moss also provided fantastic support also bowling 6 overs, taking 2 wickets for 17 runs. A special mention to Max Richards behind the stumps who took 4 catches as Gloucestershire took the win by 33 runs.

Special mention to Yusuf Khan who also made a quick fire 21 runs off 19 balls at the back end of our innings to give us some well needed runs to set a total.

Dorset vs U13s CAG @ Sherborne School

A brilliant bowling and fielding performance was the difference in the sides yesterday at Sherborne School against Dorset. Gloucestershire bowling first managed to click with the ball with Harrison Tegg bowling an incredible spell of 5 overs taking 3 wickets for a mere 3 runs! He was fantastically supported by Henry Driver-Dickerson who also bowled 5 overs taking 3 wickets for 12 runs. The innings also included 4 one handed catches to help support the bowlers when needed and dismiss Dorset for 71 runs.

Skipper Logan Bowden batted sensibly and crafted a well made 24 not out to help us over the line with support by fellow opener who made 25.

Staffordshire vs U12s Development @ Moddershall & Oulton CC

Staffordshire were the stronger side on the day as Gloucestershire lost a close match by 4 runs. Staffordshire won the toss and elected to bat first, as Gloucestershire did really well to bowl them all out for 113 thanks to a great display by our bowlers.

Staffordshire also bowled particularly well up front and pinned Gloucestershire back to 24 for 4 as we looked to form partnerships to try to rebuild the innings. Significant contributions from Ed Chidgey, Ryan Rice and Arthur King nearly saw us over the line however Staffordshire soaked up the pressure to dismiss us for 109.
