JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title:                    Communications Officer             

Responsible to:                 Marketing Manager

Location:                            Bristol County Ground, Nevil Road, Bristol

Term :                                 Permanent, full time

Basic objective:

  • Are you passionate about communications and sport? Do you want to work for a sporting organisation which seeks to place the community at the heart of everything it does? Do you share our passion for promoting environmental sustainability?
  • We are looking for a Communications Officer to help increase the prominence of Gloucestershire Cricket in the Bristol and Gloucestershire media, business and local communities.

 

The daily responsibilities of the Communications Officer will include:

  1. Working with colleagues on the commercial side, provide PR support to champion our partnerships and businesses who sponsor the Club. In doing so, help to attract investment from potential sponsors in the Bristol and Gloucestershire areas.
  2. Working with the Community Department, provide PR support for local causes and champion initiatives that make us a sport, team, business and venue individuals want to support and reflect the views and values of the communities we serve.
  3. Build relationships within cricket, business and community media to ensure the Club benefits from enhanced coverage of all its activities.
  4. Media liaison for all matches at the Bristol County Ground and during the Cheltenham Cricket Festival, to include all men’s and women’s internationals and all Western Storm fixtures in Bristol.
  5. Work with colleagues across the business to create and upload material to the news section of the website.
  6. Support the Club’s digital output to ensure a strong presence on all platforms (predominantly Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube).
  7. Grow and manage the Club’s media distribution list.
  8. Support the Marketing Manager with the Club’s e-marketing activities to its membership and ticketing databases, to include promotional activities relating to the Club’s onsite gym (BS7 Gym).
  9. Support departmental colleagues in devising and delivering press and sponsorship promotional days.
  10. Oversee internal communications to ensure that all major news stories and leadership decisions are effectively communicated across the Club.
  11. Any other duties reasonably requested by the Marketing Manager and  Commercial Director

 

Specification :

  • It is essential that the successful candidate has excellent written and digital communication skills. A detailed knowledge and interest in cricket is not a must; what is needed is someone who is passionate about promoting the Club’s off-field activities across its community and commercial initiatives and can bring creative thinking and ideas to the fore.
  • An ability to create content that appeals to a varied audience is important, as is having the interpersonal skills to deal with a variety of stakeholders, ranging from local community groups to experienced journalists.
  • Working in a busy Commercial Department, the successful applicant will be a self-starter with bags of confidence and someone who places the team above all else. Training and development opportunities will be provided at a Club thriving on and off the field.
  • Major Match day operations are essential to this role, which will therefore require weekend and evening working, depending on the fixture calendar.
  • The candidate must have the ability to manage time and manage competing demands to maintain a healthy balance between work and life.
