Norwell added to MCC team for Champion County Tour

20 February 2018

Liam Norwell has been added to MCC’s line-up to take on Essex in the 2018 Champion County Match next month.

26 year-old Norwell, who has also been added to the ECB’s North-South Series, will take George Garton’s place in Barbados after the Sussex left-armer withdrew from the England Lions tour due to a side injury.

Right-arm seamer Norwell is approaching 250 first-class wickets for Gloucestershire since making his debut in 2011, and enjoyed a fantastic 2017 season in the Specsavers County Championship, taking 59 wickets at an average of 17.39. He claimed his career best in September, taking 8 for 43 against Leicestershire.

Norwell will join former West Indies paceman Fidel Edwards and upcoming Yorkshire talent Matt Fisher in the seam bowling department for MCC when they line up against County Champions Essex at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.

The four-day match is scheduled to start on Tuesday 27th March.

John Stephenson, MCC Head of Cricket, said: “Naturally we are disappointed not to be seeing George in action, but Liam is another fine young English bowler. He enjoyed an excellent season in 2017 and we look forward to him showcasing his talent against Essex.”

Revised MCC XI to play Essex at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados:

Sam Northeast Hampshire, England Lions
Sam Hain Warwickshire
Delray Rawlins Sussex, Bermuda
