Match Preview: Leicestershire v Gloucestershire

2 June 2021

Gloucestershire will be hoping to bounce back from their first defeat of the summer as they travel to Leicester to face a side that just secured their first win in this year’s County Championship.

Whilst still top of Group Two, Gloucestershire’s first loss of the season, a convincing victory for Surrey at The Kia Oval, has narrowed the gap at the top with Somerset just three points adrift and fourth placed Hampshire 13 points behind with three games to play.

Leicestershire may feel as though their chances of qualifying for the premier division are slim to none but buoyed by their fourth innings run chase of 378 against Middlesex last weekend, they will be gunning avoid finishing in the bottom two places.

All four days of Leicestershire v Gloucestershire will be broadcast live on the Gloscricket Match Centre here

New Zealand international Glenn Phillips is included in a Gloucestershire squad for the first time and will be available to play now that Kraigg Brathwaite has left to prepare for West Indies Test Series against South Africa.

Gloucestershire also welcome back loan signing Jonathan Tattersall who top scored for The Shire last weekend with an unbeaten 86 in the second innings. He will once again take the gloves as James Bracey is making his Test debut with England at Lord’s.

Miles Hammond could open the batting for the first time since the opening match of last year’s Bob Willis Trophy having made 77 and 45 batting at number three against Surrey.

Ian Harvey has named a 13-man squad for tomorrow’s match:

Leicestershire’s Australian Test opener Marcus Harris and captain Colin Ackermann both scored big in a huge run chase on the final day of their last match against Middlesex. Their 243-run partnership saw them secure an unlikely first win of the season.

Chris Wright, the Foxes highest wicket-taker by far, continued his good form last week taking 6/48 against Middlesex. In the reverse fixture against Gloucestershire he took a career best 7/53 in the first innings to pile the pressure on The Shire.
