    Match preview | Glos v Northants | Cheltenham Cricket Festival

    Gloucestershire take on Northamptonshire in a crunch match at the Visit Cayman Islands Cheltenham Cricket Festival on Monday.

    Dale Benkenstein’s side remain rooted to the foot of the County Championship Division One table heading into the match against seventh-placed Northants, having fallen to their seventh defeat of the season against Hampshire at Cheltenham College last week.

    With only four County Championship matches left this season, a first-win of the season would give Glos a huge boost in their hopes of avoiding the drop. Captained by Graeme van Buuren, Gloucestershire still have to play three of the bottom four, and a good run of form at this stage of the season could be crucial to their hopes of survival this season.

    Visitors Northants are currently 50 points ahead of Gloucestershire in Division One having won one, drawn six and lost only two of their nine matches so far this season. In their last outing v Lancashire, Northants fell to a four-wicket defeat at The County Ground.

    Head Coach Dale Benkenstein has added David Payne to an otherwise unchanged squad to face Northants.

    Ryan Higgins, with five wickets in the match and 63 second innings runs v Hampshire, and Miles Hammond with a career-best 169, will be hoping to take their current good run of form into the match v Northants.

    Loanee Zak Chappell retains his place in the squad as do the Price brothers, Ollie and Tom, who both put in impressive performances v Hampshire.

    Ajeet Singh-Dale, Dom Goodman and Matt Taylor miss out on selection completely through injury. Ben Charlesworth, who also misses out, has featured for the Second XI recently and is scheduled to return to first-team cricket in August.

    Last time out v Northants, on the opening weekend of the County Championship Division One, Glos secured a gritty drawn at the County Ground, and will be hoping the home advantage at Cheltenham College helps to tip the result in their favour this time around.
