Jack Taylor and James Bracey have been appointed as Gloucestershire’s captain and vice-captain for the upcoming Royal London Cup campaign.

The Shire’s T20 captain, Taylor, takes on the 50-over competition captaincy from Graeme van Buuren, who is unavailable for selection for the entirety of the tournament due to his involvement in The Hundred. Taylor also captained Gloucestershire’s T20 side this season and will lead the team out in the Royal London Cup throughout August.

Speaking about his appointment as captain, Jack Taylor said: “I’m looking forward to leading the boys out in the Royal London Cup, we have a competitive squad, with good options throughout the order. It’s a fresh competition for us and were looking to start in a positive way vs Warwickshire”.

James Bracey, meanwhile, takes on the role of vice-captain having previously acted as an understudy to Chris Dent is last year’s County Championship. The 25-year-old top-order batter has been a mainstay in the Gloucestershire side across all formats this season and will be looking to impress once again in the one-day format.

James Bracey added: “We’re excited to get going, it’s come at a good time for the team and it’s another competition we feel like we can go out and win.

“We made the quarter-finals last year and I feel we played some really good cricket. Having some new faces around with the more experienced players who can drive the team forward will hopefully lead to some positive results.”

Gloucestershire Head Coach, Dale Benkenstein, said: “I’ve enjoyed working with Jack and I think that with his experience on and off the field, he’s the right fit to continue as our white-ball captain in the Royal London Cup.

“I’m looking forward to the tournament and seeing some of the younger players get a chance in the first-team. We’ve got a nice mix of experience and young players who will be chomping at the bit to get going, so I’m really excited to get into it.”

Gloucestershire kick off their Royal London Cup campaign v Warwickshire on Tuesday at the Visit Cayman Islands Cheltenham Cricket Festival.
