Miles discusses benefits of training in outdoor marquee

15 February 2017

Gloucestershire’s players will be stepping up their pre-season preparations at the end of the month by moving into a marquee on the square at the Brightside Ground.

The 50m x 15m tent allows the squad to practice on grass a month earlier than they would normally be able to. It is the third year they will be using the purpose-built marquee.

Craig Miles expressed his excitement on moving into the marquee, he said “We are excited to get outside and use the marquee after using the indoor nets over the winter period. Replicating the English conditions always helps us prepare for the season ahead. We have pre-season fixtures coming up in a months’ time, so getting use to the conditions now is essential.”

“Having the outdoor marquee benefits the batters as they get more of a feel for the outdoor conditions and wicket. For the bowlers, we get a better feel for longer run ups which is beneficial as the season draws closer.”

Miles took the most wickets (57) in first class cricket last year for Gloucestershire. Speaking on his goals for the season, Craig said “On a personal level, I would like to continue the strong finish I had from last year, the main thing is to perform well for the team”.

“Our aim for the Season is to get to T20 finals day and progress further in the Specsavers County Championship. We know that we can do better in the Royal London One-Day Cup this year and hope to repeat what we achieved in 2015 at Lord’s.”
