Academy Player Highlights - August Round Up

Our Academy Players have had a busy August with many taking the opportunity to play as many fixtures as possible whilst on Summer Holiday. We look back at some of their personal highlights for the month and see which sides they have been representing for the mighty Gloucestershire!
Devon vs Gloucestershire U18’s – 3rd to 5th August (3 Day)
In a drawn 3-day match against Devon, Max Shepherd bowled impressively in the first innings taking 4 for 70 off 30 overs with his left arm spin.
Left-handed opener Oliver Meadows also continuing his fine form hitting a well made 82 off 139 balls against a strong Devon bowling attack.

Gloucestershire U18’s vs Berkshire 2XI – 11th August (50 Overs)
A 54-run victory against Berkshire 2XI saw Oliver Meadows again leading the way with the bat hitting 69 off 96 balls to contribute to a competitive total.
He was ably backed up by his bowlers including spinner Praneel Choughule who bowled economically taking 3 wickets for 28 runs off 10 overs.

Somerset vs Gloucestershire U18’s – 15th August (T20)
Praneel Choughule cracked an impressive 51 runs off 33 balls at the top of the order for our U18’s side at Taunton Cricket Club. He looked in fine touch, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes however Somerset managed to take the win by 16 runs.

Gloucestershire Second XI vs Sussex 2XI – 16th to 20th August (4 Day)
Luke Charlesworth, Will Naish and Oliver Meadows were selected to represent Gloucestershire’s Second XI.
Oliver Meadows scored 87 in the first innings and followed up with a solid 46 in the second innings, as he looked in full control against Sussex’s bowling attack.
Brilliant to see Oliver contribute for the Second XI which in turn meant he was called up to a 14 man First XI squad for a Royal London fixture against Kent.

Gloucestershire U18’s vs Somerset – 23rd to 25th August (3 Day)
In the return 3-day fixture against local rivals Somerset, opener Tommy Boorman hit a valuable 87* carrying hit bat through the first innings. He was ably assisted by Max Trotman who knocked a patient 54 off 119 balls.
Gloucestershire won the fixture by 84 runs as Max Shepherd bowled accurately and consistently taking 6 wickets for 44 runs off 20 overs to ensure victory.

Herefordshire 2XI vs Gloucestershire U18’s – 31st August
Another opportunity for our U18’s side to play against a men’s side as they travelled away and picked up a 2-run victory.
Oliver Meadows scored 50 off 83 balls and Praneel Choughule scored 60 off 77 balls to help Gloucestershire post 261 for 8.
Luke Charlesworth in reply took 4 wickets for 45 runs in 9 overs to help seal victory in an impressive opening spell.
