Second XI T20 - 09 June 2021

Warwickshire 2nd XI won by 8 wickets

Venue: Portland Road

Warwickshire v Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire’s Second XI had their fourth T20 fixture of the week, playing against Warwickshire at Edgbaston Community Sports Ground. Gloucestershire fielding a youthful side which included 5 Academy players. Warwickshire Skipper and England International Chris Woakes won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Academy Players Will Naish and Max Trotman were giving the opportunity to open the innings and looked fairly settled at the crease executing an array of front and back foot shots. Both batsmen were dislodged in the 3rd and 4th over which meant skipper Tom Lace and B Wells picked up the pieces both hitting a flurry of boundaries to keep the innings alive. The impressive left arm spin of Bethell for Warwickshire knocked them both over which then allowed Ollie Price to free his arms to smash a quick fire 38 runs and was ably supported by Praneel Choughule who hit 25, getting Gloucestershire to 138 for 7 in 20 overs.

Dom Goodman made very early in-roads for the away side and dismissed both openers cheaply, giving Gloucestershire hope at 34 for 2 in the 5th over of the reply. The arrival of C Benjamin and J Bethell for Warwickshire took the game away at a canter, both hitting half centuries to seal victory for the home fixture and batted superbly to reach the target in 15 overs.

Gloucestershire’s next Second XI fixture takes place on the 14th June against Glamorgan CC at Newport CC.
