Tonight's Game Could Be Pivotal - Hamish
27 June 2012
Hamish Marshall is making no attempt to play down the importance of tonight's Friends Life t20 clash with Warwickshire at the County Ground (5.30pm start).
The skipper describes the game as "potentially pivotal" in Gloucestershire's bid to reach the quarter-finals through the Midlands/Wales and West Division.
While Somerset have opened up a four point lead at the top of the table and are six ahead of Marshall's men, Gloucestershire have two games in hand on their rivals and visit Taunton on Friday.
"Beating Warwickshire would put us right in the mix," said Hamish. "It is a potentially pivotal fixture for us.
"Somerset and Warwickshire have points on the board, but with the games we have in hand and a match against Somerset to come, our destiny is in our own hands,"
Director of Cricket John Bracewell is hoping the right Gloucestershire team turn up this evening, admitting that inconsistency has been a problem in all forms of cricket so far this season,
"When we play well we can look as good as any team in the competiition, but when we are off form we look awful and appear soft," he said.
"We know what we can do and have set a benchmark for ourselves. With a young team the key now is to learn how to reproduce our best on a more consistent basis.
"When we are off colour we get bullied. We have to play within our limitations and find a way of playing that works for us. Then we will have a chance."
Kane Williamson has now left the club to prepare for New Zealand's tour of West Indies. But Benny Howell is fit again after a chest infection and ready to take his place in the side.
