U15s Boys County Age Group - 2023 Season Review & Award Winners

23 October 2023

After a shaky start to the 2023 campaign, the Under 15 found their feet at the Teddies 100, where they played 3 games of the Hundred.  This format suited some players, with Henry Driver Dickerson hitting a sublime 77 from just 24 balls, with a strike rate of 320, including 8 man sized 6s against Wales and Arthur Trotman scoring the first U15 century of the season with 101 not out against Oxford.

As well as The Hundred, the boys played a variety of formats: T20, 50 overs and 2 day cricket.  We hosted the Nathan Lyon Academy side in June, where Max Davidson claimed the first 5 for of the season.  It was also where Logan Bowden struck 164 in a 3 hour stint at the crease.  Congratulations to both on their first milestone of the season.

The cricket was interspersed with rain this year and it seemed as though a lot of games were cancelled.  In fact we only lost 2 scheduled fixtures - Warwickshire and Wales, although others were interrupted by the weather, such as the Dorset game, which was turned into an impromptu T20 game.

The boys continued to play some good cricket and developed their game as the season progressed, learning from previous matches and building on the strengths shown, whilst working on the areas they identified for development.

Sometimes lacking the killer instinct, whilst at other times, the lads oozed confidence and this showed in their performances and results.

Everyone contributed with bat, ball or in the field and it is perhaps unfair to single individuals out, however, we now come to the Player and Performance of the Season.

Performance of the Season

A young man, who averaged 48 for the Under 15, who scored 2 centuries, with a highest score of 164.  His performance against Oxford in the 50 over game, was clinical, intentional and dominating.  Reacting on feedback from earlier in the season, this young man came out and demonstrated his capabilities with the bat, scoring 122 in just 77 balls, with a strike rate of 158.  The Performance of the Year is awarded to Logan Bowden.

Player of the Season

A young man, who had grown during the course of the season, both in cricketing terms and physically, he has demonstrated his desire to improve his game, sought advice and has taken every opportunity to play at a higher level, both within and outside of the pathway.  Playing for the U16 and the U18 during the season, this young man has improved his speed as well as his accuracy and will flourish as he continues his representative cricketing journey.  With 12 victims and an average of 18, the Player of the Season is awarded to Jack Freebury
