U14s Boys County Age Group - 2022 Season Review & Award Winners
11 October 2022
The U14s Boys competitive season got underway against Devon. We won the toss and batted first and it was positive to see so early on several players making great starts with the bat as well as our bowlers helping us to victory by bowling them out where wickets were shared.
They then went to Staffordshire where notably Logan Bowden notched a superb century and Henry Driver-Dickerson scored 53. This match was closely followed with a dominant victory against Somerset, our bowlers bowling brilliantly in tandem to dismiss the opposition for 157, a special mention to U13s guest Arthur Sweeting hitting an excellent 82 not out.
We unfortunately fell short against Berkshire on a tricky surface however Henry Driver-Dickerson once again in fine touch, scoring another half century.
The side moved onto the infamous Kings Festival, where they were undefeated – they were a number of memorable performances, but U14s Coach Richard Trotman noted the players impressive teamwork and camaraderie on and off the field which led to some fantastic results. Highlights of the festival included 4 wickets for 10 runs for Joe Baggaley-Mott, Henry this time starring with the ball taking 4 wickets for 18 runs, Max Davidson with a knock of 76 and Jonty Taylor taking 3 wickets for 23 runs.
The fixtures came thick and fast after the festival and a victory against Wiltshire was followed by a defeat to Wales. A superb win away versus Hampshire upset the form book and gave us an outside chance of qualification for the latter stages of the ECB Competition. Isle of Wight visited Newent next and were put to the sword by the opening batsmen, Logan Bowden who scored 90 and Arthur Trotman scoring a scintillating century.
A special mention also to Jonty Taylor who took a brilliant 5 for 32 against Somerset in a friendly two-day match. He was key to dismissing their strong middle order.
Performance of the Year
This year’s performance of the year goes to a player to a stunning piece of bowling which saw all four wickets eight caught behind or at first slip. A pleasure to watch and thoroughly deserved taking 4 wickets for 10 runs against Oxfordshire. This years U14s Boys Performance of the Year was awarded to Joe Baggaley-Mott
