U11s Boys County Age Group - 2023 Season Review & Award Winners

23 October 2023

A successful season which witnessed some notable performances and undoubted player progression. 18 players gained the opportunity to represent the age group in 2023.

Following a disruptive start the under 11s got their season underway with a hard earnt victory away to a competitive London Schools side. In early June the team Secured themselves the Wynyard Gibb Cup in remaining unbeaten in winning the T20 tri-tournament gaining success over Oxfordshire, Hampshire & the St Edwards select XI.

Going into the Taunton festival in August the under 11’s remained unbeaten for the season. A quite unbelievable start to the tournament saw Gloucestershire set substantial totals and successfully bowl out the opposition, winning their first three matches by 231, 246 & 120 runs respectively.

A defeat to Worcestershire on day 4 provided some valuable learning and a timely opportunity for the whole group to re-focus and re-set.

Going into the final fixture vs an unbeaten Dorset, Gloucestershire could only secure the tournament win with full batting and bowling points + the victory. Having set 186, maximum batting points were secured. It was now down to our bowlers, only 10 wickets would do!! Following some fantastic bowling and two sharp stumpings, the game was beautifully poised with Dorset 9 down one over remaining!! A wicket in the final over completed the perfect performance and a well-deserved tournament success.

The season was masterfully managed and directed by Captain Ronnie Freeman with tremendous support from the leadership group of Tobias Vamplew, Ed Collingwood & Sam Clifford. Three batsmen Ronnie freemen, Tobias Vamplew & Gautham Manchikalapati each accumulated over 200 runs.  Two bowlers Harrison Davis & Angus Howard each taking more than 10 wickets. Congratulations goes to Nathan James and Angus Howard for both snatching 5 wicket hauls. A fantastic group to work alongside and coach, many thanks to all the players and the parents for your fantastic support.
