U10s Boys County Age Group - 2022 Season Review & Award Winners

The season began with a comfortable 49 run victory over Worcester with Harrison Davis taking 5-17. This was followed by a trip to the magnificent Edgbaston Community Ground where excellent fielding produced 5 run outs in another 49 tun win.

The boys had to work hard to defeat Worcester again by 43 runs, but, the batting began to show some real promise against Oxford with a total of 185-3, Ronnie Freeman scoring the first half century of the season. Dorset gave the side a serious test, with the team chasing down 148 to win by 4 wickets with 2 overs to spare.

The squad immediately revelled in the atmosphere of the Malvern Festival and made a big leap forward in winning all 5 matches. Ronnie Freeman, Sam Clifford, Gautham Manchikalapati and Ed Collingwood all scored half centuries. Harry Baker took 5-12 and Ethan Thaiss snatched a hat trick! A special mention to Nathan James who added his attacking flair to the batting line-up. Then Ethan Thaiss and Alex Raven blew Wiltshire away with the ball along with further victories against Dorset and Warwickshire who were comfortably defeated.

The season concluded with a fantastic performance against Somerset, winning by 161 runs. Nathan James who scored 73 and Sam Clifford who scored 63 featured in a partnership of 137, but then Toby Vamplew smashed a sensational 87 from only 37 deliveries, including 13 4s and 2 6s, as we reached 310-4 in 40 overs. Somerset were bowled out for 149 in 31 overs.

U10s Coach Eric Woodmason said all the players involved should be proud of their performances as a team as well as individuals. He added that our older pathway coaches have got some fantastic cricketers to work with in future years!

Performance of the Year

This award goes to a player who smashed a brilliant 87 not out off a mere 37 balls against Somerset and helped the side a fantastic victory over our local rivals. A knock which saw the ball going to all parts of the ground, this years U10s Boys Performance of the Year was awarded to Toby Vamplew

Player of the Year

This player has been in great form with the bat throughout the whole season. Averaging nearly 56 and with a high score of 74*, this player has a bright future ahead of him and impressed with his consistency to score runs when needed most. This years U10s Boys Player of the Year goes to Ronnie Freeman
