Will High In Most Valuable Player Rankings
1 May 2012
Will Gidman's strong start to the season with bat and ball has been recognised with a top ten place in the FTI Most Valuable Player Rankings.
The Gloucestershire all-rounder is fifth, having been as high as third, in the current list, which ranks all players who have competed in the opening LV=County Championship fixtures.
Will already has 16 wickets to his credit this season at an average of less than 15.9. He has also scored 158 Championship runs at 26.3.
Those stats are translated into points for the FTI rankings, giving Will a total of 84. The only players ranked higher are Nottinghamshire's Andre Adams and Worcestershire's Alan Richardson, both on 99, Somerset's Nick Compton (88), and Kent's Matthew Coles (85).
Later in the season the FTI rankings will extend to include the Clydesdale Bank 40 and Friends Provident t20 competitions, producing lists for each and an overall MVP, taking into account all forms of cricket.
Somerset's Marcus Trescothick has won the overall award in two of the past three seasons. But he is currenty facing two months on the sidelines after ankle surgery.
Will's early high placing suggests he is going to build on a tremendous first season with Gloucestershire. Last summer he achieved the all-rounder's double of 1,000 runs and 50 wickets before being named the club's Player-of-the-Year.
