We Did Well To Make A Game Of It - Klinger
23 June 2013
Michael Klinger admitted to mixed feelings after Australia A had clinched a 24-run
victory over Gloucestershire in a hugely entertaining tour match at Bristol.
The home side were bowled out for 296 on the final day, having begun it on
162-3, needing a further 159 to win.
Skipper Klinger told this website: "It was a great effort by the lads to
get back into the game after what happened on day one, but it would have been
nice to get over the line at the end.
"It was a 50-50 game when we turned up today. The ball swung a fair bit at
the start of the morning with the overhead conditions and, although a few guys
got starts, we needed someone to go on an get 60 or 70.
"We may find half of the players we faced end up in the Ashes squad so it
was great for our youngsters to take on such quality opposition.
"We definitely learned from the way we bowled in the first innings and
that is a real positive. What we proved in the second innings was, however good
the opposition, if you keep them under pressure mistakes will happen."
"Looking ahead to our T20 campaign it was good to see both Dan Christian
and Tom Smith getting some runs, They both got some time in the middle and I'm
glad they were able to play.
