Fun Run for Sport Relief

23 March 2012

Spectators at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club’s pre-season friendly against Glamorgan were kept entertained during the lunch break, as around 100 children from Ashley Down Primary School took to the ground in aid of Sport Relief.

The youngsters, aged between four and six, ran around the outskirts of the pitch in a bid to raise funds which will go some way towards transforming the lives of people in some of the world’s most disadvantaged communities.

Gloucestershire County Cricket Club players Alex Gidman (Captain) and James Fuller also took part in the fun run. They were joined by Glamorgan Cricket Coaches Steve Watkin and Dave Harrison.

In reward, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club has gifted the children who took part a free 12 month membership to Junior Gladiators. Membership will enable them to take up a range of offers including free admission to all home matches, including Gloucestershire v South Africa on August 22nd.

Tom Richardson, Chief Executive of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, commented: “Our pre-season friendly was a thoroughly enjoyable day, made ever more special by the attendance of some 100 children from our neighbouring Primary School. The crowd at the match also added an extra buzz to the fun run which kept both young and old thoroughly entertained.

“We are delighted to have been able to help Ashley Down raise the much needed funds for Sport Relief, by lending our ground to the school.”

Laurence Pitt, Headmaster at Ashley Down Primary School commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the children and their families to be involved in a national, high profile fund-raising event, to have a bit of fun and to do something that is active and healthy.

The added bonus of being able to take part in the fun run at the County Ground with the school and GCCC staff working closely together feels great and we hope that this will become one in a long line of joint events between the school and GCCC in the future. We're sure everyone will have a brilliant time and raise a bit of money for a truly worthwhile cause.”
