Fuller Keeps Glamorgan On The Ropes
22 April 2014
James Fuller struck twice after rain had frustrated Gloucestershire’s bid for victory on the third day of the LV=County Championship match with Glamorgan at Cardiff.
The weather wiped out any play until the afternoon and only 34 overs were bowled after Gloucestershire resumed their first innings on 230-9, leading by 85 runs.
The visitors were able to add only a single to that advantage before last man Matt Taylor fell to Michael Hogan, leaving Tom Smith unbeaten on 39.
Glamorgan made a solid start to their second innings and had reached 27 when Fuller had opener Gareth Reed caught behind for 14.
Two balls later the seamer bowled Stewart Walters for a duck. And when Will Gidman had Jacques Rudolph caught by wicketkeeper Cameron Herring for five Gloucestershire looked to be making up for lost time.
They were then held up by an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 44 between Will Bragg (29 not out) and Murray Goodwin (26 not out).
But Glamorgan were still six runs behind at the close on 80-3 and Gloucestershire’s seamers will be hoping to press for victory on the final day.
Fuller has figures of 2-22 from nine overs and the typically economical Gidman 1-25 from 14 overs.
