Cockbain Ton In Vain For Seconds
24 April 2014
A century from Ian Cockbain was not enough to save Gloucestershire from a 65-run defeat by Surrey in a Second XI Trophy match at Bristol.
Adam Rouse hit 101 as Surrey ran up 332 all out after winning the toss. Liam Norwell (3-59) and Jack Taylor (3-60) were the main wicket-takers.
Skipper Cockbain then top-scored with 113, off 91 balls, with 10 fours and 4 sixes, as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 267 in reply.
Brandon Gilmour got the innings off to a good start with 56, while Dan Housego made 28, but there was too little support for Cockbain down the order as George Edwards finished with 4-44, Chris Jones 3-29 and Tom Lancefield 3-35.
Gloucestershire were 197-3 at one point, but after Benny Howell had fallen for 17 Surrey never relaxed their grip.
