Anything Could Happen On Last Day - Dan
8 August 2012
Dan Housego believes he and Ian Cockbain could hold the key to Gloucestershire's fortunes on the final day of the LV=County CHampionship Second Division match against Hampshire at Bristol.
Gloucestershire staged a magnificent fightback to bowl their promotion-chasing opponents out for 276, conceding a first innings lead of just five runs.
But a mini-collapse in which four wickets went down for the addition of 21 runs plunged the home side into trouble before Housego and Cockbain negotiated the final 10 overs, Gloucestershire reaching the close on 102-4, just 97 runs to the good.
If Gloucestershire are to avoid a second successive defeat, they will need the fifth wicket pair to continue their dogged resistance in the morning.
Dan told this website: "Ian and I could well hold the key to how the game goes on the final day.
"We got our heads down and worked hard to see it through to the end and it was important we did not lose another wicket in that final session.
"Our heads could have gone down and we wcould have panicked when those wickets went down, but we kept our composure when it really mattered.
"Our aim tomorrow will be to bat for as long as possible and, if we do that, the runs will come. We're not thinking too far ahead about how much of a lead we will need, just focussing on the next ball and getting through.
"Batting last on this pitch may not be straightforward and, if we can bat the overs and build a decent lead, anything could happen."
