Youngsters to enjoy FL t20 celebration at Glos

6 June 2012

Gloucestershire Cricket Board, the community partner of Gloucestershire Cricket, run dozens of programmes offering free coaching and activity to thousands of children across the County each year.

Over the next few weeks, all children participating in “Chance to Shine” coaching, “Hit the Top” disability programmes, “Asda Kwik Cricket” and “Lady Taverners Girls’ Cricket” will be offered a free ticket to attend one of Gloucestershire’s Friends Life t20 cricket matches in Bristol.

This new initiative is aimed at building even closer links between community cricket and the professional game and will provide hundreds of young people the opportunity to see their sporting heroes in action.  At each match, the children will have the chance to meet Gloucestershire players, participate in the guard of honour at the start of the match and take part in a lap of honour in the interval.

Steve Silk, GCB Cricket Development Manager, said: “It is fantastic that our community programmes will include a chance to attend Gloucestershire matches this summer.  For the children it is the perfect way to celebrate their achievement in completing the programme as well as an opportunity to watch some top class cricket.”

Tom Richardson, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club’s Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the GCB programmes at our Friends Life t20 matches in Bristol this summer.  Community involvement is at the heart of our strategy for the future.  We will also be running similar programmes involving youngsters from the north of Gloucestershire at The Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival in July.”

Gloucestershire Cricket’s 2012 Friends Life t20 campaign gets off to an exciting start with a Thursday night clash against Somerset on 14June.  This match is expected to be a sell-out.

Following this clash, there are only 4 further home t20 matches scheduled at the Nevil Road Ground this summer so, don’t delay and buy your tickets early.
