Gloucestershire won by 53 runs

Venue: Cheltenham CC

Gloucestershire U18's vs Berkshire 2xi (Friendly)

Cheltenham CC hosted our U18s side against Berkshire 2xi yesterday, a great opportunity for our young side to play against experienced players within the minor county set up. Berkshire won the toss and elected to bowl first.

A shaky start for Gloucestershire as wicket keeper Max Trotman was dismissed second ball of the match which brought to the crease Joe Phillips. Phillips (49) and Oliver Meadows (69) did a fantastic job of rebuilding the innings putting on 130 runs for the 2nd wicket. Stanley Brown ensured that Gloucestershire ended with a par total of 232, hitting 41 not out off 45 balls. Berkshire bowler Jaffer Chohan bowled well to restrict the home side, taking 4 wickets for 30 runs.

Will Naish and Luke Charlesworth bowled well in tandem at the start – applying pressure to Berkshire’s top order and dislodging them at regular intervals with the away side slipping to 57 for 4. Left to Berkshire’s middle order to lay the foundations for the chase, Ben Salter and George Barlow looked set and comfortable at the crease. However, the combination of pace and spin from Hamdi Saleem and Praneel Choughule meant Gloucestershire were able to take victory by 53 runs.

A thank you to Cheltenham Cricket Club for again being fantastic hosts and for Berkshire’s for a competitive fixture, a great experience for our U18’s side.
