University of Exeter vs Gloucestershire U18's (Friendly)

A strong U18’s side which included 9 Academy players traveled south to play the University of Exeter in Topsham. Skipper Will Naish won the toss and elected to bat on a glorious but windy day in the South West.

Wicket-Keeper Batsman Max Trotman carried his bat through the innings and led from the front with a well crafted 116* which included 10 boundaries. Moving up the gears steadily throughout, he looked untroubled at the crease and was ably supported in the middle order by Will Naish (31), Shay Sainsbury (21) and Ahmed Syed (29). Exeter University bowled well with good consistency, being able to pick up wickets at regular intervals, particularly C Fernandes (2 for 48) and W Hardman (1 for 30). This restricted Gloucestershire to end with 247 for 6 after 50 overs on what looked to be a decent par score for our U18s side to bowl at.

Gloucestershire struggled to make an early breakthrough after Exeter openers D Ward (46) and O Bradley (71) batted with intent and positivity at the top of the order. All-Rounder Praneel Choughule (2 for 32) dismissing them both and bowled exceptionally well in his 10 overs to be the pick of our bowlers. Exeter continued to form solid partnerships which saw them reach our target with 9 balls to spare, H Fisher (61) also contributing for the home side.

Thank you to University of Exeter for hosting us, and we wish them well for the season ahead. Our next fixture is on Sunday 2nd May against Millfield School.
