Venue: Rosedale Sports Club

LSCA vs Gloucestershire U12's County Age Group (Friendly)

Gloucestershire’s U12s County Age Group season got underway with a successful away trip to Rosedale Sports Club to play London Schools Cricket Association. Scheduled to play two T20s, it was a scorching day in the capital and both sides were thrilled to be back on the field.

First T20

Captain Arthur Sweeting won the toss and elected to bat first, which paid dividends as he led right from the front. Carrying his bat for the entire innings, he hit a beautifully crafted half century striking at a run a ball to finish with 53 not out to his name. He was ably supported by Nikash Choughule who looked in fine touch scoring 27 off 33 balls as Gloucestershire made 104 for 3 in their 20 overs. Credit to LSCA’s bowlers who challenged our batsman, in particular Roy Mattar who bowled 3 overs and only conceded a mere 6 runs.

In reply, our bowlers were on the money right from the start with Toby Downham (1 for 7) and Jack Baker (1 for 12) bowling with great control and accuracy. Apart from opposition skipper Leo Ling batting with defiance, LSCA’s batsman struggled against the likes of Lohith Kirubashankar (2 for 10) and Henry Rendell (3 for 10) who took wickets at regular intervals as they were bowled out for 46, taking victory by 58 runs. A brilliant all-round performance by Gloucestershire with contributions from all the bowlers. Special mention to Joseph Armitage who took 2 wickets for 2 runs off 3 overs, well done Joseph!

Second T20

Gloucestershire batted first again, with a different opening partnership of Joseph Armitage and Wicket Keeper Will Sweeting. Both batsmen looked comfortable at the crease and continued their form from the previous match with Armitage hitting a glorious 50 off 33 balls before retiring. Sweeting was eventually dismissed for a well made 30 which gave number 3 batsman Shriranj Praveen a chance to show his quality, with a nicely made 26 not out. LSCA bowled well to our middle order and managed to restrict Gloucestershire to 131 for 5 in 20 overs.

In reply, LSCA opener Azaan Afridi (45) did well to negotiate our strong bowling attack with Toby Downham again bowling brilliantly – unfortunate to go wicketless but going for 3 runs off 3 overs. Noah Tutty (0 for 3) and Noah Bennett (1 for 5) again bowling top line and lengths to limit scoring options for the LSCA batsman as they reached 75 for 5 in their 20 overs, with Gloucestershire winning by 56 runs.
