The Gloucestershire Exiles: support Gloucestershire cricket, wherever you are!

19 December 2020

Did you know that, for the past 49 years, Gloucestershire cricket fans who live away from the ‘Shire have been coming together to share their passion for the game, meet the players over a meal at away fixtures, organise fundraising events and enjoy their own twice-yearly magazine?

As the Gloucestershire Exiles prepare for their 50th anniversary in 2021, this growing band of supporters have had a busy 2020, despite all the restrictions to the game.

Back in February, their fundraising dinner in the Lord’s Committee Room raised over £3000-00 for the Gloucestershire Academy and emerging players programme.

David Mclauchlan, GCCC Board Member, writes: “A huge thanks to the Exiles for their superb donation to the GCCC Academy following their highly successful Dinner at Lord’s.  I believe tickets sold out at about the same rate as Ashes tickets at the same venue last year!  The Exiles are an integral part of the Club and their success in bringing supporters from all over the world together is something to be justly proud of.”

Exiles have also been voting for their Player of the Year and in July, in a bio-secure hand-over outside the Grace Gate, Ryan Higgins received the Ron Lev trophy for his performances in 2019, following his win. Members are now voting for his 2020 successor…

The Gloucestershire Exiles’ magazine, Outside-edge, is the only regular publication dedicated to Gloucestershire cricket and members are just about to receive the autumn edition. In it, Ryan writes about life in the Bristol bubble, James Bracey reveals his hopes for the future and highlights from the club’s 150 years are celebrated among the many articles about Gloucestershire past, present and future.

Membership of the Gloucestershire Exiles starts at just £10-00 a year. And the best thing about membership? You can join even if you live in Nevil Road itself - members from all over the county and beyond are very welcome. So whether you live in Bishopston or Brisbane, the Gloucestershire Exiles is for all fans of the ‘Shire.
