Will Injury Blow For Festival Opener
11 July 2012
Will Gidman has been ruled out of the opening Cheltenham Festival LV=County Championship match against Essex by a side injury.
The all-rounder is also expected to miss Sunday's Clydesdale Bank 40 match against the same opponents, but is having treatment with a view to being involved in the Festival at some stage.
Will suffered the injury in the warm-up before a second XI game against Sussex at Hove last week.
Skipper Alex Gidman said: "Will is going to miss the first half of Cheltenham at least. His injury is still being assessed and we are not sure how serious it will prove to be.
"It is a blow to us because he is a pivotal member of our four-day team."
In Will's absence Gloucestershire went into the Essex game today with the following team: B.Howell, E.Cowan, D.Housego, A.Gidman (capt), H.Marshall, I.Cockbain, E.Young, J.Batty (wkt). I.Saxelby, D.Payne, L.Norwell.
