Will Back Among The Wickets

18 August 2012

Will Gidman marked his return to action after injury by taking 3-79 as Gloucestershire's rain-ruined LV=County Championship match with Kent at Bristol drifted to an inevitable draw.

The weather relented for the final day and, from an overnight 29-1 in their first innings, the visitors went on to make 300-9 declared.

That meant both teams earned three bonus points and six in all from the game. Gloucestershire declared their first innings after just one delivery, which brought a single, to end the match,

At the end of the day Will told this website: "I was pretty pleased. I was actually a bit nervous going into the game because I'd been out for quite a long time.
"I was rested for the Twenty20 games and then picked up my side injury, which prolonged my spell out - all in all, it was about two months.
"I hadn't had a lot of overs going into the match, so with hindsight I was pretty pleased with how the day went.
"I probably bowled a few too many balls that went for four, but maybe that was to be expected given the amount of time I'd been out.
"We have a couple of injuries in the squad so I'm not sure how much choice the coaching staff have at the moment, but hopefully I can stay in the team for the rest of the season and finish on a high note.
"We have had so many days washed out at Bristol because the rain has been incredibly heavy and has flooded the pitch. We lost pretty much three days because of the weather in this game so I thought to have them nine down was a pretty good effort."
Gloucestershire are back in action at the County Ground tomorrow afternoon when Lancashire provide the opposition in a Clydesdale Bank 40 match.
