Three wins from four would be good - Higgins

24 May 2018

All rounder Ryan Higgins says the squad must seize the opportunity to bounce back quickly from Wednesday's Royal London Cup defeat by Surrey when Hampshire come to the Brightside Ground for Friday's day-night fixture (2.00pm).

Higgins' unbeaten 81 at the Kia Oval pushed the Gloucestershire total up to 282-6, only for Surrey opener Will Jacks to make 121 and set the platform for their first win in the South Group.

"From a personal point of view it was nice to get the score" said Higgins. "I striking the ball well but also trying to play properly so I could give myself a chance to really go for it at the end of the innings."

"We originally thought a total in the 260-270 range would be about par but as time went on we realised it was a better pitch than that. We tried to adapt in the last ten overs when it's important to have wickets in hand and maybe we could have gone for it a bit earlier but that's something we'll learn from."

The squad for today's game is same as was originally selected for the match at the Kia Oval, minus the injured Dan Worrall.

Squad:

Dent (c), Hankins, Howell, Roderick, Cockbain, J.Taylor, Higgins, Smith, Miles, M.Taylor, Liddle, van Buuren, Hammond.

Hampshire arrive at the Brightside Ground with the only 100% record in the South Group, each of their three wins having been achieved batting second. South African left hander Rilee Rossouw has made 90 and 111 in their last two victories over Surrey and Essex, and with fellow countryman Hashim Amla alongside him at the top of the order and James Vince batting at three, they have a powerful batting unit.

"Friday is a chance to test ourselves again against a really good side" Higgins added. "We've won two matches out of three, so it would be good to make that three out of four and that's how we'll look at it. "

"Even in defeat we can take some positives from the Surrey game. We came out second best on the day but we played some hard cricket. Everyone is trying to stick up their hand up by getting a score and we're quite tight as a bowling unit. We've got to keep our processes right."
