Six-wicket Saxelby stars for Gloucestershire
19 July 2012
Ian Saxelby claimed a career-best haul of 6-48 as Gloucestershire bowled out Leicestershire for 162 at Cheltenham, before advancing to 40-2 at stumps on the second day of the rain-affected Division Two match.
Saxelby's burst of 4-2 in 19 deliveries brought the Leicestershire innings to an end and completed a fine day's work by the youthful Gloucestershire pace attack, which also featured Liam Norwell, David Payne and James Fuller.
It was the first time in seven weeks that Gloucestershire had bowled in a County Championship match and Saxelby was delighted with the way the bowling unit had performed.
He said: "There were no demons in the pitch, but we put the ball in the right area more often than not, especially after tea.
"Before tea we were probably a little lax and got hit for a few boundaries. But after tea we strung a few more good balls together.
"I changed ends (to the College Lawn End) and having the wind in my face helped the ball to swing and I generated a few wickets at the end, so I'm happy.
"We've bowled really well as a unit in the one-day game recently and we knew if we took that into this form of cricket, wth a ball that moves around off the deck a bit more, we were always going to be in the game.
"We've got some talented young lads there, we work hard, we put the hours in and on days like this, it has paid off."
