Schoolgirl Cricket Competitions Launched

7 March 2012

Gloucestershire Cricket Board has launched its Lady Taverners schools competitions countywide.

The programme is part of a nationwide competition to encourage girls to play cricket and will see 350 girls between years 7-10 play cricket across Gloucestershire.

Gloucestershire Cricket Board’s Lady Taverners competitions have run in all districts across the county across February and March, ensuring that schools have had the opportunity to play many fixtures against neighbouring schools.

The programme is designed to provide short, fast games, providing girls with a simple, but highly enjoyable introduction to the game.

Speaking about the competitions, Lisa Pagett (Head of Girls Development) said:

“It’s is fantastic to see so many schools wishing to take part in this fun version of cricket.

“Year on year the number of teams participating continues to grow, and the competition has now become a firm fixture in the school sports calendar.

“It is no surprise that, with this growth, the standard of girls cricket has improved greatly and many of the girls go on to join local cricket clubs off the back of their positive experiences in these competitions”
