Gloucestershire won three matches in the competition last season, and this year again have three victories to their credit ahead of a fixture with the team currently in pole position to make the playoffs for a place in the semi finals.

"Surrey are a good, confident side who always compete hard" Dawson said. "They have players with international and England Lions experience and they play five genuine bowlers so it's always a tough call against them."

The clash against Surrey is the first floodlit match of the 2017 season at the Brightside Ground, Bristol.

The squad of 13 is unchanged from the one selected for the match against Sussex on Sunday.

Klinger (c), Mustard, Dent, van Buuren, Cockbain, Hankins, J.Taylor, Howell, Smith, Norwell, Liddle, Miles, M.Taylor

"We haven't got the luxury of being able to pick from a big group" Dawson added. "We turn up against some teams and they are resting or not selecting players with a lot of experience. Sussex didn't play Magoffin or Shazad and Hampshire left out Carberry and Roussow, but it has meant an opportunity for someone like George Hankins."

Hankins made his List A debut in the win over Kent and although he started with a duck, Dawson felt his innings of 67 at Eastbourne justified his selection and his position at number three in the order.

"George played the situation well. He can bat anywhere and we've been flexible with our batting order, with Graeme van Buuren dropping down on Sunday. It wasn't an easy wicket to force the pace on, especially against Archer and Jerome Taylor. We know he can hit a clean ball, he helped build a partnership with Michael Klinger and then Jack Taylor and Ian Cockbain managed the situation at the end."

"What I want us to do now is back up Sunday's performance because when we've won the other games in the next match we've played poorly. That's the biggest thing for us."
