Rex Body, Chairman of GCCC Heritage Trust

Like many people I’m sure, I find it difficult to believe that nearly 20 years have gone by since we won the first of our limited over trophies against Yorkshire – the first victory of that amazing One Day Kings’ Trophy Trail.

Both the players of the time and the Heritage Trust  thought that we should be commemorating the start of that magnificent time in our Club’s history. The manner in which the team won that match and the players’ performance in batting, bowling and fielding was truly outstanding. New standards for one day cricket were set.

The Heritage Trust is holding a celebration dinner on March 22nd at the Bristol Pavilion  and at the time of writing, all the following players have already confirmed that they will be there: Mark Alleyne, James Averis, Martyn Ball, Kim Barnett, Mike Cawdron, Rob Cunliffe, Tim Hancock, Mark Hardinges, Jon Lewis, Mike Smith, and Jeremy Snape. We’re hoping that the remainder will be able to join us – including John Bracewell who has said that if he is in England he will come!

The dinner promises to be a memorable evening with player interviews conducted by Geoff Twentyman, an auction held by a celebrity auctioneer that includes an unusual piece of original artwork donated by Jack Russell and a special commemorative menu for each attendee which includes the players’ memories they’ve written for us. Tickets are selling fast so please use the link below if you would like to come.

I do hope that you will be able to join the players at the dinner to celebrate and to thank them for great memories, the huge contribution they made and their richly deserved title of “One Day Kings”.
