One Day Cup Preview | Yorkshire v Gloucestershire
1 August 2024
Gloucestershire travel north to Clifton Park, York to face an in-form Yorkshire, needing a win to keep within reach of a qualification spot.
The top three teams of nine in Group B will qualify for the knockout phase, and a win tomorrow could lift Gloucestershire into third position after victory in their previous outing away at Surrey.
It was an impressive team performance on Tuesday that kickstarted the Shire’s 50-over competition, with Cameron Bancroft and Miles Hammond leading by example with a first innings hundred and fifty respectively.
A score of 301 ultimately proved too much for Surrey as Matt Taylor, returning from The Hundred, showed his class with 4-44 as Gloucestershire ran out victors by 37 runs.
Yorkshire meanwhile are two wins from three at the start of the One Day Cup, most recently beating Sussex by 49 runs, helped in the main by a measured 63 from captain Shan Masood.
TEAM NEWS
Mark Thorburn names an unchanged 14-man squad for the trip to York, with Joe Phillips offering batting cover and seam bowling duo Josh Shaw and Zaman Akhter raring to go after being rested against Surrey.
Tom Price and Zafar Gohar are both nearing a return from injury, as the former captained the Second XI against Glamorgan on Thursday, while Zafar is back in light training.
Your 14-player Gloucestershire squad to face Yorkshire:
J Taylor*, Akhter, Bancroft, Bracey, B Charlesworth, Goodman, Hammond, Phillips, O Price, Shaw, Singh Dale, Smith, M Taylor, van Buuren.
OUR OPPONENTS
Yorkshire have continued to field a strong side in the Metro Bank One Day Cup so far, with Shan Masood, Fin Bean, Ben Coad and Dom Bess all featuring in every match.
Before victory away to Sussex, Yorkshire had also beaten Surrey in the opening round of fixtures, Leech and Hill both claiming three wickets as the London side stumbled.
Gloucestershire’s bowlers will be optimistic about Yorkshire not scoring over 261 across their three games though, with no batter averaging above 30.
A win in York could see Gloucestershire leapfrog Yorkshire into third in Group B, net run rate dependant.
