One Day Cup preview | Gloucestershire vs Sussex Sharks
6 August 2024
Gloucestershire host the visit of Sussex in round six of the Metro Bank One Day Cup on Wednesday.
Shire go into the match off the back of a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Group B high-flyers Warwickshire on Sunday, and need to win all three of their remaining matches to stand any realistic chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.
Having set Warwickshire a target of 268 for victory – thanks to a magnificent 139* from Jack Taylor – the visitors chased down their target with 13 balls remaining.
That result leaves Gloucestershire in fifth place in Group B on four points from five matches.
Sussex Sharks, meanwhile, sit joint-bottom of the table alongside Surrey having failed to win any of their opening five fixtures. In their last outing against Leicestershire at Hove, the visitors won by 10 runs in what was a high-scoring affair. Innings of 129 from Tom Haines, 85 from John Simpson and 72 from Tom Clark were not enough as Sussex slipped to a fifth straight One Day Cup defeat.
