Now Dent Stars With The Bat

27 March 2012

Chris Dent hit a century as Gloucestershire's batsmen made hay in the sunshine on the opening day of the warm-up match against Oxford University at The Parks.

The opening batsman followed up his success with the ball against Cardiff MCCU with a score of 140 as his side ran up 380-5, having won the toss at the start of the two-day fixture.

Winter signing Dan Housego again showed his worth with a half-century to follow his 62 in the one-day fixture against Glamorgan, while skipper Alex Gidman also passed the 50-mark.

At the close of play Alex told this website: "It was another really good day for us in terms of preparation for the new season.

"The pitch was a bit dusty and tired so it was a really good effort by our batsmen. I feel we are getting very close to where we want to be going into the first County Championship match.

"The weather is bonkers at the moment and it feels like mid-summer. Some teams may even have played too much cricket ahead of the new season because you tend to take into account losing days for rain at this time of year.

"We have another one day game at Worcester on Saturday and when we have played that I believe our preparation will be pretty much as perfect as it could be.

"We shall do our best to bowl Oxford out tomorrow and then decide how to use what remains of the match."
