New year, new charity partners for Gloucestershire in 2022

2 February 2022

Gloucestershire Cricket is excited to announce our new official charity partners for 2022. With the new year now well underway Gloucestershire has teamed up with three equally worthy charities with whom the Club will work alongside to make a real difference to the people’s lives within our communities, throughout the calendar year.

In working alongside our new local, city-based and county-wide charity partners, Gloucestershire Cricket aims to not only champion and support three admirable causes as best we can, but also to use the partnerships to have a positive impact on those that surround us.

The Restore Trust, a not for profit social enterprise located less than half-a-mile from Bristol County Ground, is Gloucestershire’s new local charity partner having taken over from last year’s partner, Life Cycle UK. Meanwhile Children’s Hospice South West, a major provider of hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and their whole family, has replaced Borderlands South West as this year’s city-based charity partner. Finally, the Gloucestershire Cricket Trust, the official charity of Gloucestershire Cricket whose objective is to extend beyond the boundaries of the game to support and deliver impactful community initiatives, has taken over from Young Lives vs Cancer as the Club’s County-wide charity partner.

The Restore Trust - Local charity partner

Located just a few streets across from Gloucestershire Cricket, The Restore Trust is a not for profit social enterprise working in Bristol and across the South West to provide advice, guidance, skills, qualifications and confidence to people experiencing barriers accessing training and employment opportunities. Many of its clients have challenging needs in relation to homelessness, mental health problems, drug and/or alcohol dependency and offending behaviour.

With its passion for helping to transform lives, The Restore Trust’s objectives align closely with those of Gloucestershire Cricket; including our desire to develop and deliver programmes that are not only reflective of our community needs, but also our thirst to improve people’s wellbeing by offering social inclusion programmes that can enhance people’s day-to-day life.

Suzanne Thompson, Chief Executive of The Restore Trust, said: “The Restore Trust is delighted to have been chosen as a charity of Gloucestershire Cricket Club for 2022. Partnerships like this are very important to us in raising awareness of the vital work we do in supporting people with complex needs within the local and wider community.

“Our aim is to help our clients acquire skills and education, build confidence and access employment opportunities in their region to change their lives for the better. Any funding raised via the partnership with Gloucestershire Cricket will support this important and transformative area of work that brings a range of social value benefits to the community.”

Children’s Hospital South West - City-based charity partner

With three hospices in separate locations across the region, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is dedicated to making the most of short and precious lives through the provision of the best possible hospice care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions. For more than 30 years the specialist children’s palliative healthcare provider has been caring for children with life-threatening conditions by providing children's hospice and professional family support services.

Throughout the course of 2022, Gloucestershire Cricket will look to capitalise on fundraising opportunities in aid of CHSW, both within the Club itself and in outside endeavours, to provide community-generated fundraising for the hundreds of children and their families who rely on the care provided by CHSW’s local hospice, Charlton Farm.

Clemi Williams, Area Fundraiser at Children’s Hospital South West, said: “CHSW exists to make the most of short and precious lives and we put children and families at the centre of all we do. The exciting partnership with Gloucestershire Cricket will help to raise awareness of our work and encourage donations from the local community.

“This will make a huge difference to the care we are able to offer families, which includes respite, end of life and bereavement support. We are looking forward to working on some fantastic events with the club this year, raising vital funds through the great community of Gloucestershire Cricket.”

Gloucestershire Cricket Trust – County-wide charity partner

The Gloucestershire Cricket Trust (GCT), the club’s recently re-vamped charitable arm, has become the Club’s county-wide charity partner for the 2022 season.

First founded in 1991, the (GCT) seeks to further expand and diversify the reach of cricket within the county of Gloucestershire and extend beyond the boundaries of the game to support and deliver impactful community initiatives. Aligning with Gloucestershire Cricket’s community objectives, the GCT will support a cross-section of society and seeks to develop an array of new and existing projects over the coming years. This will ultimately allow the Club’s Community department to delve deeper into our community’s needs and connect with a range of groups across the county.

The Trust hope to access funding and receive charitable donations to give it the ability to access a greater portfolio of programmes in sustainability, cricket activity, education and employability, and health and well-being. These are designed to create positive change, enabling individuals and communities to fulfil their potential.

Pete Lamb, Head of Community at Gloucestershire Cricket, added: “The GCT has the potential to make huge differences to people’s lives throughout the County. As a charity its ambition is for its impact to be felt beyond the boundaries of cricket, and the programmes it funds to benefit a cross-section of our communities.

“In providing year-round opportunities the GCT will become a central and representative pillar that supports our communities.”
