New Vitality Blast attendance record for Bristol

28 August 2019

The Bristol County Ground welcomed 24,000 supporters across five Vitality Blast group matches, a new attendance record in the competition for Bristol.

With two sold-out home matches also taking place at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival, attendance numbers have reached 34,000 for the 2019 season.

Gloucestershire defeated local rivals Somerset in the final home Blast game of the group stages in front of a sold-out crowd. Similarly to the Cheltenham Cricket Festival matches, the game against Somerset sold out over two weeks in advance with 8,000 supporters filling The Bristol County Ground.

Supporters showed their commitment to the Club with two midweek matches against Kent and Hampshire drawing a crowd of 8,000 between them.

GCCC Commercial & Marketing Director Neil Priscott said:

“The numbers attending our T20 matches is hugely encouraging and reflect the good cricket being played by the team, the buzz around the Club with all the recent ground improvement works and a spike in interest for the game as a whole during this amazing summer of cricket.

We hope to build on this enthusiasm in the coming weeks, whether or not we qualify for a home quarter-final in the Blast, as we seek to maintain our promotion push in the County Championship. It has been great to see so many Gloucestershire supporters through the gates in recent weeks and we hope to see many more in September.”

With the team firmly in the mix to reach the knockout stages of the competition and a home quarterfinal within touching distance, there could be one more home game for Gloucestershire supporters to get excited about.

These healthy numbers follow a successful Cheltenham Cricket Festival which saw 30,000 supporters in attendance over the course of two weeks. An average gate of 2,000 over eight days of Specsavers County Championship action in Cheltenham took its popularity to new heights.

With this, Gloucestershire are on pace to set a new Club record for total attendance in a season with two crucial Specsavers County Championship matches against Sussex and Northamptonshire coming up in September that will determine whether the Club can secure promotion to Division One.
