Muchall On Song As Seconds Crush Somerset
30 May 2013
Paul Muchall finished with 6-42 as Gloucestershire bowled out Somerset for 200 on their way to completing a nine-wicket Second XI Championship win at Clifton College.
That gave the all-rounder match figures of 8-86. With David Payne (2-51) and Miles Hammond (1-31) chipping in, Gloucestershire were left with only 38 to score for a resounding victory.
At the end of the second day, the visitors were 59-4 in their second innings, still 104 runs behind, having been comprehensively outplayed.
They managed to avoid the indignity of an innings defeat, but the outcome was never in doubt.
Muchall had a match to remember. He followed up his 2-44 in Somerset's first innings of 172 by hitting 81 as Gloucestershire replied with an impressive 335, Will Tavare scoring 105.
Payne (3-22), Matt Taylor (3-51) and Hammond (2-41) also bowled effectively in Somerset's first innings, while Hammond also scored 47 in Gloucestershire's reply.
