More Rain Makes Jon Go Batty!

16 August 2012

Gloucestershire wicketkeeper Jon Batty provided some unexpected entertainment for spectators and team-mates alike as only 11.2 overs were bowled on the second day of the LV=County Championship match with Kent at Bristol..

The visitors had progressed to 29-1 when torrential rain arrived at 11.45pm, soon reducing the outfield to a virtual lake.

There was laughter as Batty then emerged from Gloucestershire’s dressing room clad in only swimming trunks and goggles before taking a dip in some of the huge puddles that surrounded the square.

As the keeper paddled and demonstrated his front crawl and back-stroke techniques players and supporters took photographs, no doubt seeking a snap to sum up the summer of 2012.

Later Jon told this website: "There was some banter among the lads in the dressing room and stupidly I discovered a pair of Speedos in my bag, so I decided to keep them entertained.

"Some of the photos may need censoring! I thought I was going to drown at one point, some of the puddles were so deep.

"The groundstaff were laughing and telling me there was an even deeper bit in the corner if I wanted to try it. It has been a ridiculous summer. I can't remember one like it."

Umpires Neil Bainton and Martin Bodenham ruled out any further prospect of play at 1.15pm.
