Miles Strikes But It's Hard Work For Bowlers
10 September 2014
Craig Miles was the only successful Gloucestershire bowler as the batsmen continued to dominate on the second day of the LV=County Championship match with Leicestershire at the Bristol County Ground.
By the close the visitors had run up 246-2 after Gloucestershire had extended their first innings from an overnight 513-5 to 646 all out.
Miles managed to dismiss Greg Smith for 103, pinning him lbw the ball after he had reached his century, while Ian Cockbain was responsible for the other wicket, running out Angus Robson for 97.
Earlier in the day, Alex Gidman had extended his marathon innings to a career-best 264, made from 274 balls, with 38 fours and 3 sixes.
Amazingly on such a docile pitch, Alex was the first victim in a hat-trick for Leicestershire left-arm seamer Atif Sheikh, who dismissed him lbw and then clean bowled both Miles and Liam Norwell with his next two deliveries.
It was the first hat-trick by a Leicestershire bowler since 2011 when Matthew Hoggard achieved the feat against Glamorgan at Grace Road.
