Miles And Tom Make Good Start In South Africa
25 January 2013
Gloucestershire youngsters Miles Hammond and Tom Shrewsbury have made an encouraging start to the England Under-19 tour of South Africa.
Although the tourists were beaten in their opening two-day fixture against a Western Cape Invitation XI in Cape Town, the club's two Academy off-spinners performed well.
Hammond took 3-26 from nine overs to help bowl the home side out for 117 in their first innings after battling away for 33 balls to score eight not out in an England total of 132-7 declared.
England declared again on 182-5 in their second innings, neither Gloucestershire player batting, and the Invitation XI made 201-3 to win by seven wickets, Shrewsbury taking 1-32 from 11 overs, which included four maidens.
Gloucestershire Academy Director Owen Dawkins said: "We are delighted with the start Miles and Tom have made and look forward to them playing roles in the Test Matches and one-day internationals that lie ahead."
