McCarter Efforts Not Enough As Notts Win
1 May 2013
A good all-round performance from Graeme McCarter was not enough to save Gloucestershire second XI from a first defeat of the season againat Nottinghamshire in a friendly match at Thornbury Cricket Club.
After victories in their opening two fixtures the team were brought down to earth by a poor performance, which saw the visitors win by an innings inside two days.
McCarter claimed 4-50 and Academy bowler Scott Phillips 2-52 as Nottinghamshire were bowled out for 330 in reply to 108.
The Gloucestershire's batting flopped against, off-spinner Sam Wood taking 4-14, including a hat-trick, as they were skittled for just 87.
McCarter top scored with 26. The next fixture for Gloucestershire second XI is a three-day friendly against Glamorgan at Newport, starting next Tuesday.
Despite the setback against Notts, It has been an encouraging start to the season for the second XI, who began with superb victory over an experienced Surrey side at The Oval in the Championship and followed that up with another win over Worcestershire in a three-day friendly at Dean Close School.
Gareth Roderick and Richard Coughtrie made centuries in that game, while Ed Young took five second innings wickets to win the match with just ten minutes to spare.
