Lauren Filer signs for Welsh Fire

12 December 2019

Lauren Filer has been signed by Welsh Fire to play in The Hundred next summer.

The 18-year-old Somerset seamer - who has today been awarded the the Harry Burden Bursary Award, an annual bursary to support a young player’s cricket - has been selected by Welsh Fire Head Coach Matthew Mott.

Filer plays her club cricket for Weston-super-Mare, and earlier this summer she was part of the successful Somerset Women’s team who were crowned T20 Division Two champions.

She was selected to represent the South West at the Regional Development Centre Festival in July, went on to participate in the School Games and most recently she has been selected for the England Women’s Academy Training Squad.

Mott said: "It's fantastic to know we'll have young, local talent playing for Welsh Fire in The Hundred.

"Competitions like The Hundred and the WBBL in Australia can be massively beneficial to young players. Lauren will learn a lot from working with the likes of Meg Lanning and Jess Jonassen and I look forward to getting to know her better and seeing what she has to offer with the ball in hand."

Mott's team will play a double-header with the men's team at Sofia Gardens in Cardiff but will also play matches at the County Ground, Bristol, and at Filer's local county Somerset, at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton.
