Kevin Curran 1959-2012
10 October 2012
Everyone at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club was saddened to learn of the death of the former Zimbabwean batsman and national team coach. Curran, who was 53, died early this morning in Mutare. A statement issued by Zimbabwe Cricket said he collapsed while out jogging.
Curran, who was coach of the Mashonaland Eagles team, was in Mutare as his team prepared for their Twenty20 fixture against the Mountaineers on Wednesday. As we understand, this game has been postponed out of respect.
Andy Brassington, former Gloucestershire team mate and friend said: “I have been receiving calls all morning from former players, we are all in shock on hearing of Kevin’s untimely death. He was an outstanding cricketer and was fiercely competitive in all that he did. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.”
Curran made his international debut in the 1983 World Cup. He left Gloucestershire at the end of 1990 and moved to Northamptonshire, where he played until his retirement in 1999.
