James Bracey to captain Gloucestershire in County Championship opener
2 April 2025
Gloucestershire vice-captain James Bracey will stand in for red-ball skipper Cameron Bancroft in the Club’s opening County Championship match of the season against Derbyshire.
Wicketkeeper Bracey will lead Glos for the eighth time in first-class cricket, having previously deputised for Chris Dent and Graeme van Buuren.
Bancroft is unavailable for the season opener as he was only released from his Western Australia contract on Friday 04 April - the same day Gloucestershire begin their 2025 campaign at the Incora County Ground.
The Australian opener is set to arrive in the UK in time for the Club’s first home match of the season, when Glamorgan visit Bristol for the first of five Men’s Severnside derbies this year.
