Jack Taylor named T20 captain

12 August 2020

Gloucestershire Cricket is delighted to announce that Jack Taylor has been named Vitality Blast captain for the 2020 season.

The 28-year-old, who made his debut for the Club almost a decade ago, will lead the team in the T20 competition taking over from the now retired Michael Klinger.

Speaking on the captaincy, Jack said:

“It’s an honour to be given the T20 captaincy for this season. I know that I have big shoes to fill following on from Maxy’s leadership, but I am excited for the challenge and opportunities that lie ahead.

We have a strong core group that I believe can and will go to the next level and bring silverware back to this great Club.”

Taylor is seventh on the all-time Gloucestershire T20 scorers list with 928 runs at an incredible 148.48 strike rate. He also ranks eighth in T20 appearances for Gloucestershire.

Jack has taken 26 wickets, his best figures of 4/16 coming in a man of the match performance on his T20 debut against rivals Somerset in 2011.

Head Coach Richard Dawson on Taylor’s selection: “It's a very exciting time for the Club having Jack Taylor take over the Vitality Blast captaincy. He has been part of the T20 changing room for a number of years and can carry on the hard work that Maxy put in over the years.

He is one of the more senior players in the squad and now has the chance to lead the team and create something of his own."

In last year’s competition, Jack scored 193 runs, 42 off 20 at home to Essex his best. He also contributed a crucial 26 not out versus Kent at Canterbury to ensure Gloucestershire qualified for the knockout phase.

Jack has been a key player in Gloucestershire’s recent limited over successes. He picked up the Batsman of The Year award in 2017 after making 140 runs in the NatWest T20 competition and scoring over 300 runs in the One-Day cup.

Most memorably, Jack was the man of the match in the 2015 Royal London Cup win at Lord’s having scored 35 off 26 balls and taken 3/43. The 2020 Vitality Blast begins on 27 August with Gloucestershire’s first match taking place at the Bristol County Ground.
