    International matches to be played in Bristol 2020-2024 announced

    High Profile Matches 2020-24

    The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has today announced the venues for the High Profile matches for a five-year period 2020-24.

    These included all England men’s International fixtures during this period (including Test, ODI and T20), domestic First Class competition finals and the venues around which partnerships for the eight-team new T20 Competition will be built.

    Gloucestershire Cricket is delighted to announce that it has been awarded 5 International matches for the period 2020-24 - as follows:

    2020: England vs Australia ODI

    2021: England vs Sri Lanka ODI

    2022: England vs South Africa ODI

    2023 and 2024: England ODIs TBC

    Disappointingly, however, Bristol’s bid to be a host venue for the new T20 tournament was unsuccessful.

    Bids were assessed this winter by the ECB’s Host Venue Panel - an independent advisory group, previously known as the Major Match Group.

    The Host Venue panel is chaired by Ian Lovett, the ECB’s Deputy Chairman and also comprises the former Chief Executive of the LTA, John Crowther; Karen Earl, former Chairman of both Synergy Sponsorship and the European Sponsorship Association, and Mick Hogan, the Managing Director of Newcastle Falcons who oversaw Rugby World Cup 2015’s venue awarding process.

    Commenting Gloucestershire’s CEO, Will Brown, said:

    “We are absolutely delighted to have helped Bristol continue its now rich tradition of delivering top class International cricket. This was very much a City and regional bid and in particular we must thank Bristol’s Mayor, Marvin Rees, for the hard work he and his team put into the bid.

    “We were very disappointed that such a diverse, vibrant and populous city as Bristol was overlooked for the new T20 tournament but we remain excited about the future for Gloucestershire Cricket, the Brightside Ground and the wider sports agenda in the region and we look forward to delivering this exciting selection of International matches.”
