Graeme's Big Week Is Capped By Award
10 May 2012
Graeme McCarter was awarded his Gloucestershire county cap before the start of play in the LV=County Championship match with Yorkshire at Bristol.
The 19-year-old Irishman had just been named in the team for his Championship debut, having played his first Clydesdale Bank 40 match for the club against Middlesex at Lord's on Monday.
The presentation of the county cap was made by Gloucestershire chairman Rex Body. Graeme is the latest first team graduate from the club's Academy, run by Owen Dawkins.
Skipper Alex Gidman said: "Graeme showed at Lord's that he has the character as well as the ability to become an important player for us.
"His first ball against Middlesex was creamed for four by Joe Denly and at that point his afternoon could then have gone one of two ways.
"By responding with three wickets he showed he has a clear head for the game. He kept the ball full, rather than dropping short, and reaped his rewards."
Graeme himself added: “I’ve worked mainly with Owen Dawkins and owe him a lot because he has helped with my batting as well as my bowling in an effort to make me into a genuine all-rounder.
“This is my first year working with John Bracewell and Stuart Barnes so things are happening quicker than I could have hoped.
“The aim for the entire summer was to play for the first team and once would have been an achievement. To have been selected twice within a month of the season starting is pretty special."
